Bert’s Cafe was certified at the platinum level in 2015 and has become re-certified. They compost coffee grounds and highlight sustainable food choices such as organic teas. More than 50% of the staff are Planet Blue Ambassadors and sustainability is discussed at staff meetings. Signage is posted on all waste areas letting customers know which items can be recycled, composted, or must go to the landfill. MDining purchases compostable cups, plates, napkins, “plastic”-ware, and straws. Several members of staff use reusable straws. Equipment is regularly cleaned and maintained, especially dusting air intake filters, to ensure efficiency.
